ABOUT GRAD

There are two events which form part of graduation: one is the Grad/Dry Grad event and the second is commencement.
The Grad/Dry Grad is the event when the students get dressed up. In a typical year, this has students walking the red carpet at Seaquam where the school/staff put on a small event which includes mother/son and father/daughter dances, speeches, etc. The students only (without parents) then go from the school to a hotel in downtown Vancouver for a dinner/dance before changing and being bussed back to the Dry Grad event (normally held at the North Delta Rec Centre) which finishes at about 5 am in the morning. The school takes care of booking the hotel venue, the Grad committee helps to organize the busses from Vancouver back to North Delta as well as organizing the event at the Rec Centre. The actual Dry Grad event itself on that evening/night/early morning is organized by Grade 12 parents but run by Grade 11 parents.
The second event is Commencement. This is the date the students wear their cap and gown, walk across the stage and get their diploma. This event is put on by the school.
The school have already booked a venue for the 12th June 2021 for the Grad dinner/dance. This is all a tentative plan because, given the current pandemic, we have no idea what activities will be allowed or what protocols will be in place next June.
In addition, there is normally a boat cruise for Grade 12s that takes place in October as part of their grad celebrations which is arranged by the school. However, within the current health guidelines, this cannot run. We are trying to see if there would be an opportunity to run this later in the school year, should restrictions lift and allow this to happen.
All the fundraising efforts done by the Grade 12 parents is to help with the associated costs for running the Dry Grad event.
